Getting Started (Start Here!)
« on: December 18, 2017, 06:43:33 pm »
Have no idea what the hell Ziemia is? Don't get how it works? No worries! Below is a quick intro to the game. It's actually really easy to get into, and you can always enter as a lower-tier noble if you are unsure if you will be interested or active! There is a pretty extensive document outlining the rules, but you do not need to have it all read and memorized in order to get started!

Step 1: A Quick Overview

As a quick overview of what this is, it is a forum-based Role play game where you control a character and their dynasty. You maneuver through politics, statesmanship, and warfare to gain power and influence in the world. Each 5th day of the month, an in-game month passes (or a week passes, if there is a war going on) wherein everyone posts what they are doing, all the while interacting with NPCs and other players who have the same general goal as them.

Players hold varying levels of nobility, and are free to associate with other players however they wish - provided they have the influence or power to establish and maintain that association (you may be independent so long as you can stave off those who want to subjugate you).

Step 2: Figure out what you want to do

The first thing you should do is contemplate what exactly you wish to do. Think of a culture group you would like to emulate (Spanish, French, German, etc), and then start deciding on names for things as a result of the culture-theme you're going for.

Step 3: Putting it into Motion
With the general culture-theme in mind, start putting it into action. Decide on what level of nobility you wish to start at: Lord, Knight, Baron, or Free City. Come up with a name for your primary character (your Lord, Knight, or Baron) and his dynastic name (family name); then come up with the name of your holding (your Lordship, Castle, Barony, or City). You can then begin to name your various family members as a final step.

As a quick explanation on the differences between the levels of nobility to start out as:
  • Lord: a Lord holds dominion over a Lordship, which are generally small villages or towns. Lords are among the most minor of nobility, and can have up to five (5) points to put into their starting resources. This is recommended for those who do not anticipate spending a ton of time in Ziemia.
  • Knight: a Knight is among the most minor of nobility. Some knights are landless, but they can start the game with up to a level 5 castle/keep. The title of Knight is not automatically inheritable by a Knight's offspring, but children of Knights are still considered nobility. This is also a good choice for those who don't want to commit a lot to Ziemia, and are more interested in military campaign than diplomacy or intrigue.
  • Baron: a Baron holds dominion of a Barony, which is anywhere from 10-12 points-worth of resources. A Baron (or Free City) is the highest tier of nobility a new player can start as. It is advisable to explore all avenues of expansion to gain power and influence: military, diplomacy, intrigue.
  • Free City: a Free City is basically a Baron, but without the Noble attachment. Players who opt to play as a Free City also get 10-12 points of resources, but control that City's government rather than a noble family. It's mostly a flavor thing.

Step 5: Getting Involved
With the basic names and ideas you now have, you should now get into contact with the admin, DaMonkey, about getting included into the game world. Tell me the names you have for your stuff, the culture-theme you were wanting to go for, the level of nobility you will be wanting to start as, as well as any information you also want to share with me (like if you're joining with friends and want to be put in under the same realm). I will then get you linked to all the other stuff for you to complete (which isn't much!).

I have set up a Discord server to handle new player communication. It's better than the forum PM system in this regard, while still having messages be more permanent than everyone throwing steam messages at me.

Discord is the preferred method of first contacting me. (This is new, not many on it yet)
[Discord is mainly used for Text communication; the conversations are more permanent and easy to navigate than a thousand steam conversations, but more convenient that forum PMs]

Steam is also available, but due to its nature I cannot guarantee a response on it.
